Resorts World is fast becoming a household name with casinos, cruises, and resorts around the world, including: New York, Manila, and the Bahamas. Now, we can add Las Vegas to the list. Resorts World is currently working on construction for an 87-acre mega-resort in Sin City, which is anticipated to open in 2020.
Resorts World Las Vegas is owned by Genting Group, a Malaysian leisure and gaming company valued at $7.2 billion. They will start with a 175,000-square-foot casino space in the resort. Expect top-of-the-line games, new features, and a casino experience to keep you entertained around the clock. The company is preparing to put in over 3,500 slot machines and gaming tables.
The groundbreaking on the site of the former Stardust Casino began on May 5, 2015. The total property has 21,847,314 square feet. The hotel, itself, will have four towers, for a total of 6,583 rooms. Hotel rooms and a casino are just the beginning of what promises to be a resort like no other. There are going to be amenities for everyone. Las Vegas is not only known for world-class gambling, but also world-class dining and shopping. Resorts World Las Vegas will feature an array of fine Asian cuisine and retail space. In keeping with the Asian theme, the resort will have a ‘modern Asian’ design—think the big buildings of Singapore and China. Originally, the plans were to represent old China with design reminiscent of The Great Wall, but that was abandoned to keep up with the modern approach happening in that area of Las Vegas.
The northern end of the Strip is undergoing a huge makeover. Aside from Genting’s mega-resort, the Wynn, which is next door, is also modernizing itself with Paradise Park, a Carnivale-themed series of attractions and interactive experiences that will include a carousel and bumper cars. The Drew, formerly known as the Fontainebleau Las Vegas, which is the tallest building in Las Vegas, is under renovations, as is the Stratosphere and SLS Hotel & Casino.

Before me is a scene of a resort rapidly pushing toward completion.
'We're about 75-percent completed. And we're on schedule to open next summer,' says Resorts World Las Vegas President Scott Sibella.
His resort--all 3,500 rooms of it, sitting on 88 acres on the Strip's north end, was barreling toward completion as 2020 arrived. The pandemic had other plans.
'We slowed down a little bit but never came to a stop, but now we're back to full momentum. This week alone we have at least almost 3,500 construction workers on the site,' Sibella told me.
I was here ten months ago; ten months later, progress is evident: the resort is now being built out, with its signature features plainly evident: a 5,000 person capacity theater; a 117,000 square foot casino; a 100,000 square foot LED screen on the resort's West Tower, billed as one of the biggest in the world; and signage is going up on the property.

Sibella says they're still on track for a summer 2021 opening. No definite date, yet, but he tells me, open it will.
'We hope Covid is behind us, if Covid isn't behind us we hope it is less restricted, but we're opening next summer either way,' he says.
I met Sibella in the resort's new sales office, which handles group sales for meetings and conventions. It is getting busy, he tells me: the place even has mock-ups of the hotel rooms, which sell convention planners on the property, and Sibella says they are checking it out.
'They're looking at our rooms, they know what we're building, they're excited, and I think when this does get better you'll start seeing the groups within six months start to book,' he says.
Resorts World Las Vegas will really be three hotels in one: it is partnering with Hilton, which will offer its Hilton, Conrad, and ultra-upscale 'Crockfords' brand rooms.
But what a time to open.
COVID-19 is still crippling the economy.
Sibella, who, before this, was President and CEO of MGM Grand, and before that President and CEO of the Mirage, and before that, CEO of Treasure Island, says the key for Las Vegas will be getting more air travel and the convention business that flies in with it.
But he says he's confident of one thing:

'This city has proven from history that it rebounds faster than any other city, so we do know when things get better, Vegas will take off,' says Sibella.

When full recovery comes, his property will have a unique advantage: a huge footprint on the Strip, across from the Las Vegas Convention Center expansion, and across from Encore and Wynn and the currently-stilled and silent Drew.
'We're on 88 acres. We're building on 2/3rds of that so we have 1/3rd remaining for future development and there will be future development here,' says Sibella.
